Scientists You Must Know: Robert Gore

Bob Gore (Ph.D. ChemE '63) is featured in a film series called "Scientists You Must Know" produced by the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF). The film chronicles Gore's life and highlights his most significant achievement in creating expanded PTFE or ePTFE. That discovery led to a new direction in materials science and resulted in the well-known product GORE-TEX, which is a windproof, waterproof, and breathable fabric utilized in performance outerwear.

Gore also began producing numerous other products including new electrical cables, industrial filters, medical implants, and textiles woven from ePTFE fiber for space exploration, emergency response, and defense.
