Dean's Lunch and Learn featuring the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering

Free • Registration Required

Join Dean Kaveh and department head Joe Labuz for a closer look at some of the innovations taking place in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Monday's lunch will now feature Gary Davis, Professor and Center for Transportation Studies Chair in Transportation Engineering. Following brief college and departmental updates, Professor Davis will present, "We’re All in This Together: Freeway Crashes as Collective Phenomena." According to Davis' research, rear-ending crashes on congested freeways are a primary cause of non-recurring congestion and delay, and responsibility is usually assigned to the following driver in a rear-ending crash. It appears though that actions of drivers early in a braking-to-stop shockwave can be causes of a crash between drivers later in the wave. Since neither the direct nor indirect costs of the crash are assigned to these drivers, their causal actions will tend to occur at rates higher than are socially efficient.

Alumni from all academic majors are welcome.

If you are no longer able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible.

RSVP Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 13

Dean's Lunch and Learns are casual, complimentary gatherings, but pre-registration is required.
