This workshop for graduate student teaching assistants and research assistants introduces participants to the practice of being an effective Ally and how to promote a welcoming an inclusive climate. We will introduce and use concepts of intersectionality, privilege, effective allyship, inclusive practices, and bias. We'll further discuss how to address folks professionally without using gendered language.

One-half the session will focus on the discussion of real scenarios involving instances of bias. Discussion will center around appropriate responses, consideration of the consequences of not responding, practicing language, and identifying resources when the situation requires expertise beyond our own.
