Program description

Join other Big Ten STEM students in beautiful Dublin for Summer Session while fulfilling Physics II (PHYS 1302) and liberal education requirements (Historical Perspectives and Global Perspectives).

This unique summer program is designed in partnership with University College Dublin (UCD), and serves students from Big Ten institutions. Students take courses taught by UCD faculty, including second year physics and a Modern Ireland course that seeks to recreate the excitement, turmoil, and difficulties faced by the country from the Irish Revolution through Brexit. Housing and a “Monday to Friday” two-meals-per-day plan are provided by UCD.

Program details

Term and Credits: Summer session. Eight University of Minnesota credits by transfer. Grades will not be factored into your University of Minnesota GPA.

Dates: Sunday, May 26-Friday, July, 12, 2024 (seven weeks)

Cities: Dublin, with excursions to other parts of Ireland

Eligible students: Open to CSE first-year students. Admission is by application.

Courses: Physics II with lab (five credits; equivalent to PHYS 1302), and Modern Ireland and European History (three credits; fulfills the Historical Perspectives lib-ed and Global Perspectives lib-ed).

Language prerequisite: No language prerequisite

Instruction: University College Dublin faculty

Estimated Program fee: The program fee is $8,150 and includes an application fee, eight credits, housing, day tours, a partial meal plan, special events, local transportation pass, and international health insurance. The fee will be finalized during the fall semester before students commit to participating. Airfare to and from Ireland is not included.

Participants who cancel after April 1 are charged a €150 fee by University College Dublin through the University of Minnesota, and will be charged other fees by the University of Minnesota if canceling after confirmation, regardless of date. In the event of student cancelations, CSE will adhere to the policies and procedures outlined on the Learning Abroad Center's cancelation policies website.
