Virtual Reality and Modern Life in Korea and Japan

Seminar description

The College of Science and Engineering is offering a global seminar experience that will give participants the opportunity to investigate the intersection of virtual reality (VR) and our living reality in Korea and Japan. The seminar will blend a cultural exploration of Korea and Japan with industry visits, lab tours, VR demonstrations, and technical discussions.

During this program, students will discover the answers to questions such as:

  • How can VR support our mental and physical health?
  • What technological advances are coming, and how will these impact human life?
  • How can we more strategically utilize VR in health and wellness initiatives?

Dates: Saturday, May 11-Friday, May 31, 2024

Application deadline: Friday, March 1, 2024

Eligible students: U of M students and non-U of M students. Admission is by application.

Credit: Students will receive three credits from the Computer Science and Engineering Department coded CSCI 4980 

Faculty leader: Professor Victoria Interrante, Department of Computer and Computer Engineering

Language prerequisite: No language prerequisite is required.

Estimated program fee: The final program fee for this seminar will include three credits, round-trip airfare, housing, excursions, international health insurance, and some group meals. This program is estimated to be $8,000–$9,000. A final cost will be shared with applicants before confirmation.
