College of Science and Engineering graduate programs receive high rankings in U.S. News report

All CSE programs ranked in the top 25 nationally among public universities

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (05/17/2023)—The University of Minnesota Twin Cities remains one of the top schools in the country for science and engineering, according to a new U.S. News and World Report. Several U of M College of Science and Engineering graduate programs ranked in the top 25 overall, and all CSE graduate programs landed in the top 25 among public universities across the nation.

The University’s Chemical Engineering (6th) and Environmental Engineering (9th) were ranked among the top 10 in their fields. Mathematics followed closely behind at 11th overall and 4th among public universities.

Chemistry, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, computer engineering, materials science and engineering, biomedical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, earth sciences, and electrical engineering all placed within the top 30 overall, with higher rankings among public universities. 

As a whole, 72 University of Minnesota Twin Cities graduate programs and schools earned places among the top 30 in their field. Last fall, U.S. News & World Report ranked the U of M Twin Cities campus as the No. 23 public university in the country for undergraduate education.
