"I applied to the graduate Financial Mathematics program at UMN because I wanted to learn more about mathematical applications for risk management practices in the financial industry. I started with the FQF to reinforce my math and programming skills. I successfully transferred to the MFM in year two and graduated with my incoming class. The MFM’s academic and career advisers, as well as the broad alumni network were very resourceful in career advising and job-hunting techniques. The knowledge I gained from the program in derivative pricing, volatility modeling and programming was tremendously helpful in preparing me for a career as a quant. I advise those considering the FQF and/or the MFM to remember that graduate studies in finanical mathematics at UMN prepare students to adapt in various fields within quantitative finance. Make sure you take the time to explore what area appeals to you within this fascinating and wide field"
