Where Engineering Meets Business

What is ISyE?

Industrial and systems engineering focuses on the design, planning, and management of complex, large-scale systems such as global supply chains, healthcare delivery systems, financial services systems, and other critical business infrastructures.

ISyE professionals are system-level thinkers who possess unique — and marketable — problem-solving backgrounds that integrate science, engineering, management, and mathematics. Their skills are sought after by a wide range of industries, governments, and nonprofit organizations alike.

What makes a "system"?

  • Large, complex, and open
  • Includes multiple stakeholders (i.e. firms, consumers, governments)
  • Draws upon multiple infrastructures (i.e. natural resources, transportation, telecommunication)
  • Involves technology, management, and public policy
  • Has broad societal implications
