Project storage

There's plenty of project storage in the Anderson Labs! Please email [email protected] or talk to our staff during open hours to reserve space for your projects. Project storage is intended for active projects only! NOTE: All large LiPo and Li-Ion batteries MUST be stored in the battery storage cabinet in ME 2-134. Storage options include:

• Lockers (Design Lab, ME 2-134) - If your supplies fit in a locker, this is the best option. Just find an empty locker and tell us which one you're using. You must provide your own lock.
• Shelves 1 - 4 (Design Lab, ME 2-134) - Great for larger projects that won't fit in the lockers.
• Shelf 5 (Design Lab, ME 2-134)
  • Temporary Storage - If you need to store something for longer than two weeks, please reach out to us for more permanent storage space. Use the top three shelves on shelf 5 for projects that you're storing in the lab temporarily. Please fill out one of the storage labels found on the end of the shelf so that we know who the project belongs to.
  • Laser Cutter Materials - If you bring in sheets of material to laser cut, please store them on the bottom of shelf 5 and make sure to label them clearly.
• Large Project Storage (Design Lab, ME 2-134) - The area behind the storage shelves is designated for projects that won't fit anywhere else.
• Battery Storage (Design Lab, ME 2-134) - There is a flammables cabinet behind the Design Lab storage shelves that is designated for storing batteries of all kinds. LiPo batteries are fire hazards and must be stored properly! The cabinet is full of bins that you can label and put your batteries in.
• Flammables/Chemicals/Paints - All painting and chemical use must be approved by staff! Please talk to staff if you have paints, chemicals, flammables, etc. that you need to store!!!
• Build Lab Shelves (Build Lab, CivE 335) - More storage shelves are available in the Build Lab (CivE 335). Please contact [email protected] or talk to staff to reserve space on a shelf.
• Personal 3D Printer Filament Storage (Design Lab, ME 2-134 AND Build Lab, CivE 335) - Register your filament at z.umn.edu/RegisterFilament, then label it with a pink sticker from the front desk, and store it at the end of the 3D printer shelves in either lab.

We will reach out at the end of each semester to ask if you're still using your storage area. If we don't hear from you, you might lose your stuff! Please let us know when you are done using your storage area.

All materials along the "Laser Room" wall at the back of the Design Lab (ME 2-134) are free-to-use scraps. Do not store your items along that wall or they may go missing.

Meeting room reservations

A meeting room in the Design Lab (ME 2-134) is available to reserve for group work sessions, phone calls, etc. When the meeting room is not reserved, it is available on a first come, first served basis. You must have 24/7 U Card access to use the meeting room after regular hours.

Student employment interest

Do you want to work in the Anderson Labs? Use the form below to express your interest. The full job description is available below as well, but the brief overview is that Student Workers help run the day-to-day operations of the makerspaces. They teach new lab users, troubleshoot broken machines, clean, organize tools, and do many other things. This position is only open to active undergraduate students on the Twin Cities campus. This form is simply an interest form, not an "application", so you may not hear anything back from us. Rest assured that if you complete the form, we have your information. Even if you don't end up employed here, we'd love to have you participate in and contribute to our community!
