Tradition of excellence
Celebrating its 100th year in 2009, the department traces its roots to agricultural engineering and forest products. The department was one of the first departments in the country to embrace a broader bioproducts and biosystems education and research mission.
World-class academic programs
Taught by internationally recognized faculty, the department integrates engineering, science, technology and management into all degree programs. Students acquire skills to design and develop products, processes, and systems to meet growing demand for materials and energy while addressing environmental challenges. The curriculum features hands-on and experiential learning, including opportunities to conduct research with award-winning faculty.
The Bachelor of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBBE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The BBE Advisory Council, with a diverse membership from organizations, government agencies, and industry, provides counsel and support to the Department and employment to our students and graduates.
