Bioengineering and Human Life: Ethics of Bionics and Genetic Engineering

PRESENTED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

Speaker: Brian Herman, professor, Biomedical Engineering

Topic: Cloning, gene drive, and stem cell technologies are rapidly developing to the point where it will soon be possible to treat multiple diseases and even clone human beings. Science has always brought great promise to end suffering, but also great danger for abuse. With the ability to manipulate the fundamental makeup of biological organisms, what should the limits be that we place on the use of these technologies and who should we trust to monitor their use?

This event is open to outside attendees.
