Two CSE alumni receive UMAA's Alumni Service Award
Graber and Lo volunteer time and talent to CSE
MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (9/15/2016)—Two CSE alumni have been awarded the University of Minnesota Alumni Association’s Alumni Service Award. The award is given to University of Minnesota alumni by the Board of Regents in recognition of their service to the University or its schools, colleges, or departments; or service to the University of Minnesota Alumni Association.
Alumni who received the award are:
Robert Graber (CSci '86)
Graber received the award for his enthusiastic dedication and involvement with the College of Science and Engineering. As a former chair of the college's Alumni Society Board, Graber oversaw the restructuring of the Board to align more closely with the needs of the External Relations office. He currently serves on the Executive Committee, and is an active member of the Engagement Committee. Graber was also a member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Collegiate Counsel, and he and his wife are joint life members of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. A member of the Solar Vehicle Project Advisory Board for more than two years, Graber helps students secure funds and in-kind support, space to build the vehicle, and provides ongoing advice to group members. He is an enthusiastic CSE supporter, regularly attends events at the University of Minnesota, and volunteers at CSE events when needed.
Charles Lo (ME '70, M.S. '72, MBA '93)
Lo received the award for his leadership and dedication to the College of Science and Engineering. An invaluable asset to CSE, he is a dedicated volunteer who works to improve the experience of CSE students and alumni. Since he retired from TSI, Inc., he volunteers his services full-time to the Mechanical Engineering Department wherever he is needed. He served as a member of the CSE Campaign Cabinet and Steering Committee, which wrapped up in 2015. Thanks to his hard work and other committee members, the college surpassed its $150 million campaign goal, raising more than $176 million. In addition to being a strong advocate for the college's focus on teaching and research, his generous financial support sets him apart as a philanthropic leader. As joint life members of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, Lo and his wife, Maryanne, regularly attend alumni events, lectures, and sporting events at the University of Minnesota.
