Environmental geosciences

You'll study the natural processes that shape our environment and examine how human activities impact it. You'll also explore sustainable practices to tackle challenges like maintaining water and soil quality, managing natural resources, and mitigating natural hazards including flooding, landslides, and climate change.

Major highlights

Core curriculum including: Classes in mineralogy, geochemistry, environmental geophysics, hydrogeology, geomicrobiology, and geographic information systems (GIS).

Summer fieldwork: Two fieldwork courses in your sophomore and/or junior year! 

Varied job opportunities: Use your degree in industry, government, nonprofit sectors.

There are many you can join as an EnvGeo major at the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering, including GeoClub and the Minnesota Groundwater Association. See cse.umn.edu/studentgroups.
