Chemistry
Chemistry significantly impacts many fields, including medicine, materials science, genetics, biology, pharmacy, food science, and environmental science.
Major highlights
11 focus areas: Organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, bioscience/bioproducts, chemical biology, chemical physics, chemistry education, environmental chemistry, green chemistry, materials chemistry, polymers, and inorganic chemistry
World-class facilities: Spread across our Twin Cities campus, these include the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, X-Ray Crystallographic, and Mass Spectrometry Laboratories.
Share your research: Our students have the opportunity to publish in scientific journals, speak at conferences, and present at poster sessions.
New building: We're transforming the way chemistry is taught. Once completed, our updated 117,000-square-foot Fraser Hall will house 18 new active learning labs, tutoring and informal student collaboration spaces, and general purpose classrooms.
Student groups
There are many you can join as a chemistry major at the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering, including the American Chemical Society (ACS). See cse.umn.edu/studentgroups.
