How did you get involved with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)?

I became involved with SHPE@UMN back in my freshman year. I attended a few of the social events to start. I really became involved when I spent time as a volunteer for SHPE’s regional leadership conference, which was hosted by SHPE UMN at the U of M that spring!

Why did you get involved with SHPE?

While SHPE offers a great deal of professional support—preparation for career fairs, resume reviews, mock interviews, you name it—I stayed with SHPE for the community. Sometimes you don’t even realize how much you’ve missed your familia until you’ve joined the organization!

What is the mission of your organization?

SHPE UMN’s mission is to change lives by empowering the Hispanic and Latine community at the U to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.

How can others get involved in SHPE?

You can check out SHPE’s upcoming events and social media on the SHPE Linktree page. Additionally, we’re hosting an in-person SHPE UMN event (an ice cream social!) on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at East River Park. Meet us outside Tate Hall to walk over together!
