Name: Lubna Mohamed Abdirahman
Pronouns: she/her/hers
Class year: Senior
Major: Management Information Systems
CSE student organization: National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
How did you get involved with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)?
I was initially a general member my first year. I went to events and got to meet other members. Then, I applied and joined the Public Relations Committee my second year, and I helped manage our social media pages. In my third year, I was on the board as a senator, helping plan regional conferences and national conventions. Now in my fourth year, I am the president of the organization!
Why did you get involved with NSBE?
I am involved in NSBE because of the people and community. Everyone is willing to help one another succeed, and the community I've built with those involved in the organization over the years has been really great.
What is the mission of your organization?
NSBE's mission is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."
How can others get involved in NSBE?
Other students can get involved with NSBE by attending the events we host. (Follow our Instagram, @nsbe_umntc, for more info). Students can also sign up for NSBE’s weekly newsletter or become an official member by completing the NSBE General Membership Application.
