Summer camp draws more women to computer science
Robot programming is just one of the activities at Professor Maria Gini’s summer computer programming academy for young female students. The camp, started in 2015, helps Minnesota increase the pipeline for more diverse computer scientists. Read more about in our article titled, "Cracking the Code."
Students receive awards of excellence at SWE National Conference
The University of Minnesota chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) accepted five awards at the 2017 SWE National Conference in recognition of their outstanding actions in K-12 outreach inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. University awarded $3.7M to boost retention of underrepresented students in STEM
The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $3.7 million grant to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to further efforts to increase the number of students of color and American Indian students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs of study and careers. More than 30,000 school kids learn about science
