Minnesota AI for Science Series
The Minnesota AI for Science Series is an ongoing effort to bring together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders from academia, national laboratories, federal agencies, and industry to explore the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and scientific discovery. Through a sequence of national workshops, the series examines both how AI can accelerate science and how scientific challenges can drive the next generation of AI advances.
The series has evolved alongside the rapid advancement of AI. It began with two NSF-sponsored workshops on the AI-Enabled Scientific Revolution (2023 and 2024), which explored the transformative potential of AI across scientific disciplines. This was followed by GenAI4Science: Integrating Scientific Knowledge into Generative AI (2025), which focused on incorporating scientific knowledge into generative AI systems. The fourth workshop in the series, Frontiers of GenAI & Science (2026), builds on these efforts by examining how the unique requirements of scientific discovery can help shape the future of AI.
Across all events, the series seeks to advance the methodological foundations of AI for science, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, identify emerging research opportunities and priorities, and help define future directions for AI-enabled scientific discovery and innovation.
