Remembering Mary Hessburg

If you came to the Mechanical Engineering Building between 1951 and 2002, you probably met Mary Hessburg. She had a remarkable career at UMN ME that spanned 51 years. Hessburg served in various administrative roles, starting as a clerk/stenographer and eventually rising to department administrator until her retirement. Her tireless work on behalf of the department, its faculty, and its students made over half a century of research and education possible. She lived to age 95 and received an honorary doctorate in mechanical engineering. Outside of ME, she enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing bridge. She lived a remarkable life and made a significant impact on the department, where she is fondly remembered.
