- Harmonic analysis (Fourier coefficients behaviour in functional classes: theorems of De Leeuw - Katznelson - Kahane type and connected statements, operators - multipliers, Men‘shov-type correction theorems, uncertainty principals)
- Geometric analysis (harmonic measure in Rn, counterexamples to its absolute continuity to the surface measure, harmonic measure for sets of high co-dimensions, analogues to Dahlberg’s theorem for the latter setting)

Department of Computer Science and Engineering
Assistant Professor
Sun’s group works at the intersection of machine learning, numerical optimization, computer vision, and data science, and our recent focus is to develop the theoretical and computational foundations of machine learning in general and deep learning in particular, as well as apply them to tackle challenging scientific, engineering, and medical problems.

Minnesota Robotics Institute
Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics
Professor Caverly's research interests include the dynamic modeling and control of aerospace, mechanical, and robotics systems. In particular, he is interested in theoretical developments related to input-output stability, as well as optimal and robust control of linear and nonlinear systems. His applied research focuses on accurate, yet computationally-efficient,…
Data Science Initiative
Associate Professor, School of Statistics
My research is at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and signal processing. I like to formulate and address novel research problems that are often inspired by foundational thoughts in statistics, information theory, signal processing, and optimization. I address those research problems often by establishing new mathematical models, using asymptotic statistics and probability theory, and performing real-world data studies.

Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics
Senior Researcher, School of Physics and Astronomy
I am currently researching plasma waves in the Earth’s magnetosphere using satellite data from FAST, THEMIS, and Van Allen Probes, among other satellites. I have most recently been investigating the connection between Magnerospheric Chorus waves and relativistic electron microburst precipitation. Other recent work involved banded waves and ions which occur during the strongest geomagnetic storms. My PhD work, “Mode Identification and Dispersed Features of Auroral HF Waves Observed with…

Distinguished Mcknight University Professor
Electronic and magnetic materials are the central focus of the Leighton Group's research. We study a wide variety of materials, such as nanostructures, thin films, heterostructures, bulk polycrystals, and single crystals. We focus on topics with a strong fundamental science component that are in close proximity to applications in technology, including data storage and processing and electronic devices. Projects in our group feature fabrication of films and crystals, detailed structural and…
