Lorrie Cranor seminar (Aris Series)

Director and Bosch Distinguished Professor of the CyLab Security and Privacy Institute and FORE Systems University Professor of Computer Science and of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, Lorrie Faith Cranor, will deliver a department seminar titled, "People are predictable and so are their passwords," on Tuesday, September 29th at 1:25 p.m. in room B75 Amundson Hall. This seminar is a part of the Aris Lecture Series.

 
Biography
Lorrie Faith Cranor is Director and Bosch Distinguished Professor of the CyLab Security and Privacy Institute and FORE Systems University Professor of Computer Science and of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. She directs the CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Laboratory (CUPS) and co-directs the Privacy Engineering program. In 2016 she served as Chief Technologist at the US Federal Trade Commission. She co-founded Wombat Security Technologies. She is a fellow of the ACM, IEEE, and AAAS; a member of the ACM CHI Academy; and the author of a children's book about privacy.

The Aris Lecture Series
The Aris Lecture Series began in 1964. The series arose from the scholarship of Rutherford Aris, who was interested in both chemical engineering and paleography. Because of these diverse interests, Professor Aris was concerned by the split between different parts of human knowledge, enforced by the organization of colleges and departments at universities. Because he felt that different disciplines do not talk to each other sufficiently, he hoped that this lecture series would reach a broad audience, and so stimulate more discussion. Learn more at the CEMS website.
