Chemical Engineering PhD

Our Chemical Engineering Program is designed to offer you an unparalleled experience in graduate education and research.  Its key elements are: a rigorous, broad, and flexible graduate curriculum in fundamental as well as specialized subjects; a research environment that encourages collaborative, cross-disciplinary research; and, an emphasis on mentoring and professional development of our students, for example through participation in our “team-teaching” of core undergraduate courses. 

Research activities are supported by state-of-the-art experimental and computational resources and are broadly clustered in the areas of: Biological Engineering and Biomaterials, Catalysis and Reaction Engineering, Soft Matter and Fluid Mechanics, Polymer Science, Electronic, Photonic, and Structural Materials Engineering and Processing, and Theory and Computation. Our graduate students are uniquely positioned to define the frontiers in chemical and materials engineering research and to develop into leaders in their professional careers in industry or academia.

Program Curriculum:

  • 12 Chemical Engineering credits (4 core courses)
  • 6 additional Chemical Engineering credits (either core or electives) resulting in 18 total Chemical Engineering credits
  • 6 outside (non-Chemical Engineering) credits
  • A total of 33+coursework credits and 24 doctoral thesis credits
