We will be performing a hardware upgrade in the Keller Hall Datacenter to increase its power capacity. This upgrade will require a full shutdown of the datacenter and a temporary power outage affecting much of the first floor of Keller Hall.

4:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Services Affected

Avoid these services during the maintenance window.

  • CSE-IT managed Linux Home directories, Xtra spaces and Project spaces
  • All hardware that depends on the CSE Keller Hall Datacenter will be affected
    • This includes but is not limited to
      • All CSELabs Linux workstations
      • VOLE
      • Virtual machines
      • Compute servers in the Keller Hall Datacenter
      • Research Servers in the Keller Datacenter
  • All CSELabs on the first floor may be offline during this process depending on the circuits they draw their power from.

Services Not Affected

These services are not impacted by maintenance.

  • Wireless
  • UofM EMail
  • Networking
  • This should also not affect the functionality of Keller Hall on the whole.

What is a “system maintenance window”?

CSE-IT uses a scheduled maintenance window to upgrade, repair, and enhance our systems. Our goal is to reduce unplanned outages.

Can I work during the maintenance window?

Avoid using the affected services during the maintenance window. Use affected systems at your own risk as they can shut down without warning.

Can this be done without disrupting service?

Certain tasks require server reboots and/or physical unplugging. We do our best to group these tasks so service impact is minimal.
