Connect to a Linux CSE Labs Computer with a Graphical User Interface

A full Linux desktop on any CSELabs Linux Workstation can currently be accessed remotely, using the same FastX software powering the Virtual Online Linux Environment.

Connecting to a Linux CSE Labs Computer with a Graphical User Interface

  1. Choose an Ubuntu computer to connect to from the list of CSE Labs computers.
    • Note: Pick a random number. If too many people connect to the same computer it may impact performance.
  2. Open a web browser.
  3. Enter the computer name in the address bar.
  4. Login with your University InternetID and password.
  5. Authenticate with Duo.
  6. Click the Launch Session button. A configuration pop up will appear.
  7. Click the XFCE logo.
    • Note: In FastX3 you can also choose the Gnome desktop environment.
  8. Click the Launch button near the bottom right of the pop up. A Linux desktop will start up.
