Algebras to Insights: my journey from mathematics to data science

Abstract
This talk will cover how my interest in data science first emerged (after nearly a decade pursuing an academic career), the steps I took to prepare for applications and interviews, and ultimately the pivotal moments that convinced me to bid farewell to academia in order to pursue a career in data science. I aim to structure this like a coffee talk to share practical advice by highlighting essential skills for those of you considering a similar journey along with a discussion on the notable differences I've seen between careers in an academic versus tech environment. Time permitting, I'll also provide an overview of my current role at Viva Insights, shedding light on the skills I leverage on a day-to-day basis.
