Abstract
I've come to learn that there are misconceptions about what quantitative finance modelers (aka "quants") do in their jobs. To remedy this, I want to give some color as to what types of work banking quants do and how it is used in managing a bank. Finally, I want to describe some details of an important and ongoing problem in securities modeling, at the heart of which are structures that will be familiar to an audience with a background of some calculus and some statistics.
