Scenario: A student group wants a new website
There are different guidelines based on whether your group is a Campus Life Program or a Registered Student Organization. These guidelines include accessibility and branding considerations in addition to technical needs.

Campus Life Program (CLP)
Campus Life Programs (CLPs) are recognized as official affiliates of the University of Minnesota. This means that CLPs officially represent and are part of the University
In the College of Science and Engineering, CLP Websites are required to:
- Be hosted on university-supported platforms - either Drupal Lite or Google Sites
- Have a primary URL/domain name on umn.edu (e.g. yourclub.com is not allowed)
- Have a faculty or staff contact to serve as a site owner to ensure continuity as student membership changes
- Ensure your site adheres to the University of Minnesota’s accessibility standards.

Registered Student Organization (RSO)
Registered Student Organizations are independent and autonomous from the University and are responsible for managing their own affairs.
In the College of Science and Engineering:
- Required to follow Registered Student Organization Brand Guidelines
- RSOs are responsible for hosting and maintaining their websites
- RSOs are not allowed to use .umn.edu domains for their websites since they are not part of the University and must host their websites elsewhere.
- Recommended to ensure your site adheres to the University of Minnesota’s accessibility standards.
