About the Seminar:

HOURCAR is the largest non-profit carsharing organization in the U.S., providing services like the all-electric Evie Carshare to communities in the Twin Cities. Like other shared mobility operators, HOURCAR must meet localized demand for vehicles across a specified home area, while keeping prices affordable for members. As part of a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project, HOURCAR developed algorithms to address these challenges, including a demand estimation model, vehicle relocation optimizer, digital twin, and pricing engine, all informed by qualitative research. This presentation explores how data-driven tools and algorithms can be used to address common shared mobility challenges and make carsharing in Minnesota successful.

About the Speaker:

Noah Velick is the Data Scientist at HOURCAR, a local non-profit that operates the Twin Cities’ community carshare programs, including Evie Carshare. At HOURCAR, Noah manages the entire data ecosystem—they maintain data pipelines, develop fleet distribution algorithms, and perform complex analyses to inform the organization’s strategic decisions. They were the Co-PI on an NSF-funded project to develop additional analytical tools for HOURCAR, in coordination with the University of Michigan and University of Minnesota. Noah holds a BA in Geography and Data Science from Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN.
