FTPI Mission Statement

FTPI was established with the primary goal of conducting research in theoretical physics, and providing a meeting place for the exchange of ideas and development of theories that could answer key questions at the cutting edge of theoretical physics. By doing so, FTPI both contributes to the science of physics, and enriches the intellectual environment and the quality of education of the University of Minnesota. Through its programs and other outreach activities, FTPI develops links to other areas of science and engineering research, including industrial research, and increases the awareness and broadens the impact of theoretical physics in those and other fields. Moreover, the FTPI Members, by their teaching and mentoring of students and postdocs, contribute to nurturing the next generation of theoretical physicists, which includes actively supporting the aspirations of members of underrepresented groups.
