MnRI Executive Committee Board
MnRI’s Executive Committee consists of distinguished faculty and leaders from the University of Minnesota’s engineering, computer science, and related departments. The Executive Committee is dedicated to providing strategic leadership and operational guidance to ensure the Institute’s continued growth and effectiveness in advancing robotics research and education.
The Executive Committee fulfills its mission by advising on critical decision-making processes, including faculty recruitment priorities, research infrastructure development, and the establishment of new collaborative partnerships with industry and government agencies. It also plays a key role in evaluating major research initiatives, coordinating interdisciplinary projects, and ensuring alignment of the Institute’s activities with both the University’s academic mission and the evolving needs of Minnesota’s technology economy.
Committee members regularly assess research outcomes, educational program effectiveness, and industry engagement metrics to help maintain MnRI’s position as a leading center for robotics innovation, while adapting to emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and human-robot interaction.
Beyond strategic planning, the Executive Committee facilitates communication and coordination among MnRI’s research groups, administrative staff, and external stakeholders to maximize collaborative potential. It advises on resource planning, including laboratory space allocation, equipment procurement, and shared facility management, ensuring that research teams have access to the tools necessary for breakthrough discoveries.
The committee also guides policy development related to intellectual property management, industry partnership agreements, and student research opportunities, supporting both academic freedom and practical application of research outcomes. Furthermore, it serves as a vital liaison between the Institute and the University administration, representing the robotics community’s interests in broader institutional planning.
MnRI Executive Committee meetings are held regularly throughout the academic year. For inquiries or to learn more about the Executive Committee’s work, don't hesitate to get in touch with Nikos Papanikolopoulos at [email protected]
