Request access to MnRI’s Shepherd Lab spaces, including shared research areas and specialized facilities. Submit the access form to initiate approval and gain entry to MnRI lab environments.

Drone Lab Reservation

Access MnRI’s Drone Lab (Shepherd Lab 164) for flight testing, research, and development in a controlled indoor environment. All users must complete the required safety protocols and reserve the space before use.

Before accessing the lab:
Complete the required drone training and receive advisor approval
Submit a reservation and attest to safety requirements
Review all safety procedures and operational guidelines

Note: The system will reject any request that overlaps with current reservations or is booked within 15 minutes of another event, so it's best to choose a time when it's open.

You must sign in to your UMN Google Calendar to view this calendar. At the top right corner, select 'week view' to see the current reservations. 


Safety Protocol

Safety compliance is required at all times, including wearing safety glasses, maintaining controlled flight operations, and following all lab procedures.

How to Reserve a MnRI-Shepherd Lab Conference Room

  1. Open your Google Calendar.
  2. In Calendar settings, go to Add calendar and select Browse resources.
  3. Scroll to ShepLab and add the conference room calendars for Rooms 159, 161, 227, and 234. This lets you view room availability.
  4. Return to your Google Calendar and select the date and time you would like to reserve.
  5. Click More options at the bottom of the event window.
  6. On the right side under Rooms, choose an available Shepherd Lab conference room.
  7. Enter your event title and include your lab or research group affiliation in the event details.
  8. Save the reservation to confirm the booking.
  9. To get the room access code, email [email protected].

If you are not affiliated with MnRI or do not have an office or research space in Shepherd Lab, please email [email protected] to request a reservation and include why you would like to use the space.
