2025 MnRI Seed Grants Announced
MnRI is glad to announce six new seed grants. The objective of the seed grants program is to help lay the foundation for future large projects of transformative impact. Proposals from faculty across the University of Minnesota were received in November 2024 and were reviewed by a panel of faculty members who were not competing for funds. The following projects were selected for funding in January 2025:
Transforming Stroke Treatment via Telerobotic Stroke Intervention, Andrew Grande (Neurosurgery), Tim Kowalewski (Mechanical Engineering), and Karthik Desingh (Computer Science and Engineering).
Robotic Multiphoton Microscope for Imaging Millisecond Timescale Computations at Subcellular Resolution in Moving Animals, Suhasa Kodandaramiah (Mechanical Engineering) and Aaron Kerlin (Neuroscience).
Developing Efficient, Robust, and General-purpose Networks for Navigate-to-target Tasks by Brain-demonstration, Jean-Paul Noel (Neuroscience) and Karthik Desingh (Computer Science and Engineering).
Developing Compliant Model-Based Control Strategies for Powered Prosthetic Legs, Rachel G. Humann (Mechanical Engineering) and William K Durfee (Mechanical Engineering).
NextGDT: Towards Next-Generation (NextG) Mobile Digital Twins Networks for Human-Supervised Autonomy, Zhi-Li Zhang (Computer Science and Engineering) and Junaed Sattar (Computer Science and Engineering).
Safe Path Planning for Autonomous Delivery Drones in Turbulent Urban Environments, Jiarong Hong (Mechanical Engineering), Dongyeop Kang (Computer Science and Engineering) and Changhyun Choi (Electrical and Computer Engineering).
