As a research scientist, Travis has been involved in various projects and is an author on nearly a dozen peer-reviewed publications, covering mechanical design, aerospace propulsion system design, and the modeling, state estimation, and control of dynamic systems. Travis has worked on developing control schemes for uncrewed aircraft that change shape in flight, automating robotic manipulators to aid in delivering medical treatments, and overseeing the design of underwater robotic systems to educate youth about water quality.
Travis supports MnRI research activities through the following duties:
- Seeking out opportunities for novel research projects
- Assisting with writing and reviewing research project proposals
- Conducting research activities on current projects
- Coordinating collaborator involvement on select research projects with multiple investigators
