Changing the Game in Space Logistics and In-Space Servicing

The Brooke Owens Fellowship goal is to provide opportunities and access to talented female and gender minority students from all backgrounds who have been previously underrepresented in the aerospace industry.

The seminar will help students learn more about the Brooke Owens Fellowship and teach them the best way to apply.

The first meeting of the Fall 2026 Seminar Series (AEM 8000) will be a welcome speech from AEM Department Head, Professor Terry Meyer.

Professor Meyer will introduce the department and briefly give an overview of his research interests. He conducts research in advanced diagnostics and high-speed aero-thermal flows to help advance propulsion, power, and energy systems. These systems require a detailed understanding of highly dynamic, multi-phase, reacting, high-speed, and non-equilibrium flows over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. Such understanding is needed to develop novel devices that can be transitioned to practical use for improved efficiency, reduced emissions, and compact/robust architectures.

Attend this virtual workshop to prepare for the CSE Career Fair! We'll cover what to prepare in advance, what to wear, how to make a positive impression on employers, and strategies to help you have a successful experience at the fair.

Students from the Summer Research Mentorship Program (SRMP) will be presenting research that they have spent the summer working on with their faculty advisors and graduate student mentors, showcasing the skills and results they obtained during the program. 

We invite all AEM students, faculty, and staff to come and participate in an educational outreach workshop on August 6th at 1 PM CST, in-person at the Balas Atrium and/or virtually*! This event will be led by recent graduates of the AEM department, along with faculty who have participated in educational outreach in the past.

Educational outreach is an integral part of developing interest in STEM-related fields in the younger generations, along with giving faculty and researchers a critical item and platform to add during their grant writing. In the past, outreach has been conducted by independent AEM groups like the Minnesota Space Grant Consortium and our various student groups, but we are in the process of forming a team to conduct outreach on behalf of the department. We envision that this team will participate in summer camps, after school activities, government or industry sponsored activities, and departmental/curricular development.

During this week's event, the team will demonstrate and discuss previous outreach events/activities that have been conducted and their overall impact on the community. These will include week-long summer camps, on- and off-campus outreach, and curriculum/outreach development. We are also inviting undergraduates and graduate students to join a brand new AEM student council that will assist with departmental/educational outreach and numerous items throughout the scholastic year.

The Minnesota Space Grant is hosting both a Rocketry Competition and a Rocketry Challenge on the weekend of May 16-17, 2026.

Saturday, May 16:
The first day runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Akerman Hall at the University of Minnesota (110 SE Union St, Minneapolis), with safety checks and competition team oral presentations to judges

Sunday, May 17:
The event’s second day runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a rocket fly-off at the Tripoli Minnesota high-power rocketry club launch site just outside of North Branch.

The Rocketry Competition teams are from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Macalester College, Bethel University, Augsburg University, and Normandale Community College, as well as teams from Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio, Louisiana, Tennessee, and one team from overseas.

The Rocketry Challenge teams are from Century (Community) College, Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, St. Johns University and the College of St. Benedict, Minnesota State Moorhead, Gustavus Adolphus College, and University of Minnesota Morris. (The Rocketry Challenge is for newer, less-experienced student teams.)

Join us to celebrate the hard work of our students as they get ready to graduate!

Sigma Gamma Tau, the aerospace honors society, invites all AEM 2012 students to attend our Dynamics Final Exam Review Session! We are partnering with Professor Caverly to provide an additional course resource to encourage your academic success through collaboration and discussion! 

At this tutoring session, we will be reviewing each final exam practice problem in detail and answering any questions you may have. We'll be in Akerman 225 from 1-3PM on May 12th, and we hope to see you there!
