Fee Information, Amount & Payment Tips

Applicants must meet or exceed our Admission Guidelines. Qualifying applicants are invited to complete this form to request that their application fee be paid by the AEM Department. Your request must be submitted by 9:00 am CT on November 1st to allow time for processing.

 Requests must be made and approved prior to submission of an application. The department is not able to pay an application fee if you have already submitted your application and paid the fee directly.

 Applicants who receive confirmation that their fee request has been approved will be advised by November 20th on submission steps to enable the department to pay the application fee directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Unofficial Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts or academic records should be uploaded directly to the online application. Please do not mail in paper copies of your transcripts.

If you are admitted, the University will then request official copies of your transcripts or academic records.

Letters of Recommendation

Letters should be requested from two persons familiar with your performance in an academic or non-academic (i.e. work) setting and who can comment on your potential for success in graduate school. Preference is for recommenders from academia. AEM does not have a specific form or format for letters of recommendation.

Unofficial English Language test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.)

The TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS is generally required of all applicants whose first language is not English, regardless of U.S. citizenship status.

You may upload your CV or resume. Please list any publications and awards on your CV, but do not upload any publications or awards.

Personal Statement

Please provide a Statement of Purpose (maximum length: 1 page / approximately 500 words). This essay is your opportunity to introduce your educational background, professional ambitions, and academic interests to the AEM admissions committee.

In the Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics Department, our Master of Science program is a coursework-focused degree program designed to build advanced technical and analytical capabilities. Whether your ultimate path leads to industry innovation or government service, our goal is to cultivate engineering and scientific expertise that prepares you for long-term career growth.

Note: If your ultimate objective is to obtain a PhD, you should apply directly to the PhD program instead; an intermediate Master's degree is not required. The baseline MS program is coursework-only. Opportunities for a thesis or project are finalized entirely after enrollment and should not be a focus of this statement.

To help structure your statement, please address the following areas:

• Your Technical Foundation: Briefly describe the academic experience, advanced undergraduate coursework, or technical projects that have prepared you for a rigorous graduate curriculum. What specific engineering or mathematical concepts have you mastered so far?
• Your Educational and Career Goals: What specific advanced subtopics or scientific areas within aerospace engineering and mechanics are you excited to study at the graduate level? What are your immediate career aspirations, and how will the advanced coursework in our program facilitate those professional goals?
