Faculty & Staff Updates
Teresa Hermes joined the administrative team on June 7, and will be serving as an Executive Office and Administrative Specialist. Her main responsibilities will be reception duties (greeting visitors, mail, supplies, etc.), general administrative support, and supporting certain accounting and educational services functions.
Travis Drayna joined Prof. Graham Candler and the Hypersonic Center of Excellence in August as a Research Professor. His role will be to develop advanced geometry and meshing software for hypersonic vehicle applications. Travis brings 10+ years of industry experience (GoHypersonic Inc.) and 6 years of national laboratory experience (Los Alamos National Laboratory) to the University's hypersonics program. His main areas of expertise include computational geometry, mesh generation methods, physic solver development, and modern software design practices.
Michael Kroells, a recent Ph.D. graduate under the guidance of Tom Schwartzentruber, joined Tom's Lab as Postdoctoral Researcher 5 in June of 2023.
David Cook, a former graduate student, started his role as a Postdoctoral Researcher in August of 2023. He will be working with Joe Nichols.
Professor Ellen Longmire, who began serving as an Associate Dean in 2018, ended her term this past summer and will resume her full-time duties within AEM beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. A reception was hosted by the College of Science and Engineering to recognize her and the other Associate Deans who were transitioning out of those roles.
