Dean Alleyne honors AEM professors with Penrose Awards

College of Science and Engineering’s Dean Andrew Alleyne and the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics (AEM) have appointed Professor Ellad Tadmor the Russell J. Penrose Professorship award. The Professorship includes a 5-year term in which the recipient receives funding to continue their research while also working to enhance the national reputation of the AEM department.

The Department has also awarded Associate Professor Maziar S. Hemati as the next Russell J. Penrose Faculty Fellow. The Fellowship is made to an early or mid-career faculty member to encourage and support the work of junior faculty who are rising stars within the college.

The Russell J. Penrose Award was established on October 9, 1990, as a generous gift from University of Minnesota alumnus, Russell J. Penrose. The award is intended to “obtain and retain distinguished faculty who are outstanding in their teaching and research capabilities.” It is also a financial resource in recognition of successful research and outstanding contributions to the field and the department.

The Department congratulates Professor Tadmor and Associate Professor Hemati on this honor and looks forward to their future contributions.
