Program: Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics
Why did you choose the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics at the University of Minnesota?
“One of the things that stood out to me about the department is the access to facilities like the wind tunnel as well as the different lab and makerspace areas. Having those kinds of spaces available makes it possible to actually test and build the things you’re learning about in class.
The department also does a great job supporting student teams. Being involved with the AIAA Design, Build, Fly team, it’s been really cool to have the resources and support needed to design, build, and test our aircraft. On top of that, the campus itself is a great place to spend time and study.”
How did you get interested in aerospace engineering?
“My dad is an airline pilot, so I was always around planes growing up — even getting to fly with him and take the controls on occasion. That experience combined with an affinity for math and science made aerospace engineering an obvious path for me.”
What are your favorite things about the department?
“I love all the professors and how supportive they are. I've always felt like I can reach out for help when I need it, and I can see how active they are in developing me into the best version of myself.
I also love the department's close involvement with the Minnesota Space Grant Consortium. I've had the chance to work on a lot of cool competitions and projects because of it, and I'm forever grateful for those opportunities.”
What advice do you have for incoming students?
“Get involved with teams and clubs. The best way to build up your resume and experience is by being active in engineering projects and learning useful skills from upperclassmen. It's also just a lot of fun!”
What do you hope to do in the future?
“I hope to work in dynamics and controls within the Advance Air Mobility industry, especially as it pertains to the transition between vertical and forward flight.”
What are your interests outside of the department?
“I like to sing! I was a huge theater nerd in high school and now I'm part of one of the a cappella groups on campus, Vocal U, and I can't get enough of it.”
