The Hartig Fund

Student holding an Internet of Things project

The Hartig Fund was established in 1967 to honor professor Henry E. Hartig who joined the department in 1925, served as department head from 1946-1956, and retired in 1960. Professor Hartig once wrote that "there should be no cutting of corners, no lowering of personal standards while in school." The generous donations collected through the Hartig Fund are invested directly in supporting ECE's faculty and students to maintain a high standard of excellence as Hartig envisioned.

Examples of projects and people supported by the Hartig funded include:

Professor Henry Edward Hartig
  • ECE's Robert E. Rice Student Services Center (The Rice Student Services Center is also an outcome of the generous support of 1931 alumnus Robert E. Rice as well)
  • The ECE Learning Center, an all in one student teaching assistant, tutoring, and group project space.
  • Tutoring scholarships for our Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) honor society members who provide support to students in our core courses.
  • Faculty who concentrate on modernizing our lab courses, conducting outreach to primary and secondary school students, and supporting our vibrant student group community.
  • Direct support for student groups such as Solar Vehicle Project, IEEE, Women in Engineering, Innovative Engineers, Gopher Motorsports, UMN Robotics, and more!
  • Direct support to students to travel to conferences and for learning abroad activities.

We encourage you to support our students and faculty by contributing to the Hartig Fund.
