Professional Background
Signal and image processing, and their applications; wireless communications.
My research is primarily in the areas of statistical signal processing, communications, and image processing. My students and I are especially interested in problems of wireless communications using multiple antennas, sensor array signal processing, image enhancement and restoration.
An example of our work in signal processing is the development of algorithms for antenna arrays for communication and accurate mobile localization. Another example is the use of statistical models and signal processing approaches for genomic data analysis. In the area of wireless communications, we have worked on cooperative and collaborative transmission systems. We have also developed parametric statistical models for fading wireless channels, and space-time interference-canceling receivers for CDMA systems.
Our research in image processing has concerned the development of image restoration and enhancement algorithms that are based on special partial differential equations. We have also been interested in medical image processing, particularly in the area of image reconstruction and tomography.
