Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides undergraduate students with faculty mentorship and active learning, creating valuable opportunities to build their knowledge while being challenged in new ways.

About UROP

Undergraduate students can explore their academic and career interests, apply classroom learning to innovative research, and prepare for a career or graduate school while working closely with a University of Minnesota faculty member. Through UROP, students can partner with a faculty member on research, scholarly and creative projects, or work on a project of their own creation with faculty oversight.

With eligibility open to all undergraduate students taking at least six credits, UROP offers a valuable opportunity to:

How to Apply

  1. Write a detailed project proposal following the UROP guidelines
  2. Enlist a faculty member to collaborate with you on the project
  3. Fill out the Application Form and submit the proposal
  4. Request your faculty member fill out the Recommendation Form

Application Deadline

 

Research project applications are due by the end of February, but applicants who apply early are more likely to gain project approval.

You’ll be notified of your project’s status approximately 6 to 8 weeks after the application deadline.
