EBPG Cygwin Tools

  1. Download the EBPG Cygwin Tools.
  2. Unzip EBPG-Cygwin.zip.
  3. Open the extracted folder and follow the instructions in README.html.

EBPG WinSCP (file transfer)

  1. Download EBPG-WinSCP.zip.
  2. Unzip EBPG-WinSCP.zip.
  3. Open the extracted folder and run WinSCP.exe.

Note that there is no need to install anything and you can put the extracted folder pretty much anywhere on your computer. If you do not run Windows, scp is probably available from a command prompt.


Iced Layout Editor for Windows

  1. Download a copy of ICED.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file (iced.zip).
  3. Follow the instructions in iced_readme_install.docx.

LinkCAD

Requirements: Windows 7 or newer operating system connected to a campus network (wired or wireless).

Installation

  1. Download LinkCAD.
  2. Unzip the file that was downloaded in step 1 (linkcad.zip) which will create a linkcad folder.
  3. Go into the linkcad folder and run the LinkCAD installer (linkcad-version-setup.exe).
  4. Copy the LinkCAD license file (lclic.net) into your LinkCAD program folder (for example C:\Program Files\LinkCAD 9). If lclic.net already exists in the destination, replace it with the new license file.
  5. Start LinkCAD.
  6. If you get an error indicating that LinkCAD is unable to access the shared license folder, follow the steps below under Correcting LinkCAD Network License Errors.
  7. The license can be verified in LinkCAD by navigating to Help > About LinkCAD or by simply launching LinkCAD. If LinkCAD starts without errors, your license should be working.

Correcting LinkCAD Network License Errors

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window (Windows Key + E).
  2. In the location bar, type the following: \\ece-mentor.ad.umn.edu\LinkCAD$\
  3. Wait for some time. In a few moments you should be challenged for authentication.
  4. Use the following username (Replace internetID with your own UMN internetID): ad.umn.edu\internetID
  5. Enter your UMN internetID password in the password field.
  6. Check the box to save/remember your credentials and click OK.
  7. Test LinkCAD.

Tanner Tools

As of January 2020, Tanner Tools will no longer support Windows 7. Please note that Tanner Tools is also no longer providing 32-bit versions of their software.

  1. Download Tanner Tools 64-bit for Windows.
  2. Install Tanner Tools by double-clicking the installer. When presented with the install menu choose Install > Install Products.
  3. After installation is complete configure licensing. In your start menu you should find Mentor Graphics  > Mentor Install.
  4. Navigate to Manage Licensing > Configure Licensing.
  5. If you are asked Would you like to install/update licensing? select No.
  6. In the Configure Licensing window, select Point to a license server.
  7. Enter 1717@ece-mentor.oit.umn.edu as the port number and hostname. Clicking Test should indicate success.
  8. Tanner Tools is now ready for use.
  9. Remember that you have to be on a UMN network (wired, wireless, VPN) to checkout a license.

Removing Previous Tanner Tools

If you previously had Tanner Tools installed you should remove the old version and licensing to avoid confusion.

  1. In your start menu you should find Mentor Graphics  > Mentor Install.
  2. Navigate to Manage Licensing > Configure Licensing.
  3. If you are asked Would you like to install/update licensing? select No.
  4. In the Configure Licensing window, select Point to a license server.
  5. Under Current license and server configuration: click Edit.
  6. Highlight and remove 1717@seahorse.ece.umn.edu along with any other old/invalid licenses you may have.
  7. Click SaveBackBackExit.
  8. Launch L-Edit and make sure you do not receive a licensing error.
  9. Remove the old version of Tanner Tools via the Windows Control Panel.
