Curriculum for MS-C Degree
The MS Plan C is a coursework-based degree intended for students seeking advanced technical study in mechanical engineering. Students complete an individualized course plan approved by the Director of Graduate Studies and recorded in the Graduate Planning and Audit System (GPAS).
The degree requires 30 total credits, including:
- Three core courses selected from the department’s foundational areas:
- Controls and system dynamics
- Design and manufacturing
- Fluid mechanics
- Reacting systems
- Thermodynamics and heat transfer
- At least 12 credits at the 8000 level within the College of Science and Engineering
- One graduate-level mathematics course
- One research and professional ethics course
- One or two graduate seminar credits
Students may apply up to six credits toward a designated minor, subject to university and program requirements. Plan C students do not complete a thesis.
