Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Academic and Research (MS-A)

The University of Minnesota’s Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Academic and Research (MS-A) program prepares students to deepen their knowledge of mechanical engineering through advanced coursework and faculty-mentored research.

Students develop expertise in an area of mechanical engineering while building the analytical, computational, and research skills needed to address complex engineering challenges. The program combines graduate-level study with an individual research project or thesis conducted in collaboration with a faculty adviser.

Research opportunities span the department’s major technical areas, including:

Students work in a collaborative research environment supported by more than 50 laboratories and access to advanced facilities and equipment. Graduates pursue careers in research and development, engineering, and technology, or continue their education in doctoral programs.
