Model Floor
About
The model floor is SAFL's largest modeling space available on-site. It has been host to countless physical modeling studies, hydraulic testing and validation projects, and Earth-surface process research. The floor is supplied with river water via three large centrifugal pumps, and it has a data carriage system that spans the entire room. The model floor's features make adaptable to modeling a wide variety of river planforms, hydraulic structures, and sediment transport. SAFL is also capable of research with large vertical drops on the model floor, such as pump lift stations and drop shafts.
Model Floor Specifications
- Dimensions: 7.6 m wide x 54.9 long x 2.4 m vertical clearance (25 ft x 180 ft x 8 ft)
- Flow: up to 0.6 m3/s (20 cfs) using three centrifugal pumps
