SAFL built two outdoor bioreactor tanks to study cost-effective cultivation of microalgae for biofuel prodution. The tanks are capable of regular water inflow and outflow, water mixing, and various real-time sensors for monitoring ambient conditions. Each tank is equally exposed to natural air, sunlight, Mississippi River water, and controllable nutrient concentrations.
