Technology Help for Students
Everything you want to know about the numerous central information technology (IT) resources provided for University students through the Office of Information Technology (OIT). This includes:
- Initiating your Internet ID (for new students only) and activating your accounts
- Setting up your University email account (your University email account is the official means of communication at the University of Minnesota)
- Phone and email support for all centrally-supported technology (email, passwords, Canvas, Zoom, etc.)
- Free Online file storage
- Free anti-virus software
College of Science and Engineering (CSE) Information Technology
Students enrolled in CSE courses pay a Collegiate Fee, which in part allows them to use CSE Lab resources. This includes free software for personal computers (such as Mathmatica and Matlab), remote access of CSE Lab machines and use of other CSE Labs resources (including computer labs on campus).
UNITE streaming video can be accessed through any computer with proper hardware and software. UNITE does not maintain computers for student or faculty use.
Access to UNITE streaming videos and podcasts always require course enrollment and user authentication (University of Minnesota Internet account).
Students enrolled in on-campus sections of courses that UNITE is recording/streaming are able to access the streaming video archives on a delayed basis. See UNITE's Streaming Video Access for On-Campus Students for information.
AppsToGo apps are available to students in the College of Science and Engineering and to students who are enrolled in a course that uses AppsToGo. Software used on AppsToGo is for instructional needs only; it is not available for research needs.
