Masters candidate Rochelle Widmer successfully defended her Masters degree in Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering on June 24th, 2019. She is advised by Kimberly Hill of the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory and Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Rochelle is an active member of the SAFL Student Council, participated in educational outreach events at local schools, and was the 2019 Nels Nelson Memorial Fellowship recipient.

Ph.D candidate Mirko Musa successfully defended his Ph.D in Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering on May 17th, 2019. He is advised by Michele Guala of the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory and Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering at the University of Minnesota. In his five years as a PhD student at the SAFL, Mirko has been a valued and engaged community member of the SAFL Student Council and in 2017 was the recipient of the Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship.
Rochelle Widmer awarded 2019 Nels Nelson Memorial Fellowship

Rochelle Widmer, Masters Candidate in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering and student at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, was awarded the 2019 Nels Nelson Memorial Fellowship during a special SAFL seminar on May 7th, 2019. The Nels Nelson Memorial Fellowship is awarded annually to a University of Minnesota student pursuing her/his Master’s degree in a water resources-related discipline at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. Special consideration is given to students involved in hydraulics, hydrology, sediment transport, water quality or surface water management.
PhD student Jackie Taylor receives 2019 Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship

Jackie Taylor, PhD Candidate in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering (CEGE) and student at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, was awarded the Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship during a special SAFL seminar on April 9th, 2019. The Heinz G. Stefan Fellowship is given to a University of Minnesota student pursuing graduate studies in water resources engineering who is studying at the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. Special consideration is given to students involved in environmental hydraulics.
PhD student Vinicius Taguchi receives Alvin Anderson award

This past Tuesday, February 26th, SAFL was pleased to award the 2018-2019 Alvin G. Anderson award to Vinicius Taguchi, PhD Student in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering. The Alvin G. Anderson Award is awarded annually to University of Minnesota students pursuing graduate studies in water resources. Special consideration is given to students involved in the sediment transportation field, which was Dr. Anderson's specialty when a professor at the University of Minnesota from 1950 until 1975.
