Evgeny Pakhomenko Receives the 2023 SPIE Optics and Photonics Educational Scholarship

Evgeny Pakhomenko, a fourth-year PhD Candidate in Materials Science advised by Professor Russell Holmes, has been awarded a 2023 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. This award goes to SPIE Student Members for potential long-term contributions to the optics and photonics community.

Evgeny is among 72 recipients from 15 different countries chosen from a competitive pool of applicants by the SPIE Scholarship Committee. His research focuses on the development of organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) that are ubiquitous for use in mobile displays, with emerging applications in lighting, augmented/virtual reality, and medical diagnostics. As part of his dissertation work, Evgeny seeks to understand the role of molecular orientation in thin films, with its impact on electronic and optical properties that dictate OLED performance.
