Risk Model Development for Peer to Peer Sports Betting

Abstract

BettorEdge is a peer-to-peer sports betting service provider launched in Minneapolis that won the University of Minnesota Sportradar Innovation Challenge in 2019. Their platform allows users to bet against one another while having odds publicly available. The goal of this project is to gather user information where available, analyze betting behavior, and create a model for predicting user actions to inform the company of individual user risk. Gambling addiction is detrimental to both user and provider; by creating a risk assessment of individual users, BettorEdge aspires to know when to disincentivize unhealthy behavior.
